Hi guys, So thanks to a lot of the great advice I'm received from this sub, I've gone ahead and picked up an SP, and an EZ Flash IV. Unfortunately, I'm struggling to move games over to the EZ Flash, so I'm back here again for more advice. I've followed the instructions for installing the latest firmware onto the flash, put it in the GBA and done the update via the right button press (all went perfectly fine). However, when trying to download the EZ GBA file from here I'm coming into problems. I cannot open the EZGBA.app I've installed Homebrew, Boost and WxMac, via Terminal as instructed, but still when I try to open the app nothing happens. No bouncing app in the taskbar, no loading, nothing.
What am I doing wrong? (You may be able to tell, I'm not a coder or computer wiz.
When I say I've installed Homebrew/Boost/WxMac, what I mean is that I've put the commands into Terminal and it says that I've installed it. I haven't done anything further, so it's very possible I'm missing a step. I wish there was a noobs version for Mac).
Thanks for your help. Saving works fine on both Fire Red and Leaf Green for me on the latest firmware (2.05), so sounds like it's just a bad rom. Although I guess it could also mean that the battery inside your EZFIV is dead, can you save in other games?
Other things to try if you haven't yet downgraded to 2.01 is to try launching without GSS by pressing L+B or try launching with a hardreset by pressing L+A. (Personally I use a KEYSET.CFG file that has GSS always disabled and hardreset always on, so I just start games normally by pressing A) Maybe you've already seen it, but there's a short guide on the official webpage that has the default button combinations etc:. If I recall correctly the battery is needed to be able to save, since the cartridge only saves to RAM during gameplay and then writes the save from RAM to a.sav-file on the SD card after reset. If your battery was dead, then the RAM should get cleared when you turn off your gameboy and there wouldn't be anything left in there to write to the SD card when you boot it up again. So if you can save in some games then it might not be the battery causing trouble. Have you tried launching these games with a hardreset by pressing L+A?
Also, you might already know, but Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald all use RTC, and since the EZ4 does not have a RTC built in these games need to be patched in order for them to work. GBATA comes with the ability to RTC patch Ruby & Sapphire, but I opted to use this upgraded patch which is also available for Emerald from, have only tried Emerald so far but it seems to be working well. I may have found a reason why this will not work properly. In the top right corner of my home screen on the EZ Flash, I've noticed that it says SD V1.780.
I'm presuming this means that, although I thought I'd put the correct firmware onto the system, it appears that I haven't. When I can update the firmware properly to the latest version, hopefully this will correct the issues I'm having. I've just drag and dropped my games onto the card as if it's the v2.05 which I thought I'd loaded. Edit: I've also just realised that the games I thought had saved successfully, actually haven't worked either. I thought they had as they didn't give me any save errors, but since removing and reinserting the cartridge I can see that they've actually failed too. So as well as properly updating the firmware, I will also replace the battery (for 35p I might as well.).
